Yasnaya Polyana is not only a memorial and literary museum, but also a nature reserve. Coming here you find yourselves among the landscapes, both natural and man-made, which were often mentioned in letters and diaries of Leo Tolstoy and his family and friends. For over 90 years now these historic landscapes have been carefully preserved and restored by a group of people working for several museum departments. These people have unmatched knowledge of the estate and its ecology, and are also happy to share their observations. To really understand Yasnaya Polyana, one needs to plunge into a very special world – the world of the country estate.
