The Most Beautiful Books of Germany of 2017

As part of the educational program dedicated to the “Anna Karenina“ in Aquatints by Alexander Alexeev exhibition, there will be a presentation of the collection The Most Beautiful Books of Germany of 2017. The presentation is organized by the Center for German Books in Moscow (BIZ Moskau) and the office of the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany. 


The collection The Most Beautiful Books of Germany of 2017 consists of 25 titles. All these books are winners of the eponymous contest, which has been held by the Stiftung Buchkunst for 50 years. The independent professional jury evaluates books published in the most recent year, taking into consideration their general idea, design, illustrations, and binding, and awards prizes. The award is aimed at establishing examples that can serve as benchmarks for representatives of book industry, and at monitoring new trends in book design. Guests of the Yasnaya Polyana Gallery will have a chance to see these modern and unique publications.

The book swill be presented by: Boris Trofimov, one of the founders of the Higher School of Graphic Design; Elena Rymshina, an art historian, the curator of the department of the 18th-early 20th-century graphics of the State Tretyakov Gallery; and Tatiana Zborovskaya, a linguist and translator.

Background information:

Boris Trofimov is a graphic designer, one of the founders and teachers of the Higher Academic School of Graphic Design. Graduated from the Moscow Polygraphic Institute. President of the Academy of Graphic Design (1995-1997). Head of the studio Graphic Design – Boris Trofimov. Academician of the Academy of Graphic Design, member of the Artists‘ Union and the Designers‘ Union of Russia, winner of the RF State Award in literature and art (2001).

Elena Rymshina is an art historian. Graduated from the I. Repin Russian Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, and the post-graduate program at the Russian Art Department of the History Faculty of Moscow State University. At various times, was the curator of the Golden Bee Moscow International Biennale of Graphic Design, the art historian of the International Confederation of Artists’ Unions, and the curator of the Academy of Graphic Design.

Tatiana Zborovskaya is a linguist and translator (Moscow State University, 2011), also completed post-graduate studies specializing in Language Theory and Psycholinguistics at the Linguistics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2015). Author of over 40 publications. Scholarship holder of the Translation Workshop of the Robert Bosch Foundation and the German Association of Children’s and Youth Literature (2016). Was a nominee for the award for literary translations from German into Russian of the Goethe German Cultural Center and the German Embassy in Moscow.
