Floristry Workshop

On January 22, 2019 at 14:00, 15:00, and 16:00 the Yasnaya Polyana Museum invites children with disabilities to our Cultural Center in Tula (Oktyabrskaya St., 12) to workshops on creating a floral composition. The workshops are offered to children from 4 to 14 years of age.

Under the guidance of the museum‘s floristry artist Marina Korabelnikova, the children will create works in combined technique from natural materials gathered at Yasnaya Polyana. We ask the participants to bring with them paper for drawing (A4 format), lead and color pencils, erasers, paints and brushes (or, if preferred, marker pens).

The discount price of one workshop for disabled children is 100 rubles. Tickets are purchased right before the workshop starts. Registration in advance is necessary: +7-901-198-55-25; +7 (4872) 47-67-12.

Background information:

Floristry was one of the traditional occupations in the Tolstoy family. Leo Tolstoy‘s wife Sophia created herbaria from flowers and herbs that can still be found at Yasnaya Polyana. Our museum follows this tradition, and our craftsmen know how to preserve the natural beauty of local flowers and herbs.

For children, floristry is a fascinating occupation. Working with natural materials broadens the children’s understanding of the world, teaches them to be more attentive to various forms, develops their power of observation and creative imagination, and, importantly, their manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. In the process of patiently and systematically working, the children's hand movements become more firm and precise, and creating original compositions from dried plants inspires the child and helps his or her harmonious development.
