On January 7, the Orthodox Christmas, the Big Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Pyotr Vostokov, twice performed its special Christmas program The Nutcracker. On that day, we talked to the director of the orchestra and learned a lot about the work of the jazz musician, his teaching experience, and about how one should begin when listening to jazz.

Online Project: Yasnaya Polyana. Occupation


1941

To commemorate the 76th anniversary of the liberation of Yasnaya Polyana from Nazi occupation, we have prepared a new special online project. It tells about how Yasnaya Polyana survived the 47 days of the occupation in 1941.

The project has the format of unmasking myths, which is well-known to those who follow the life of our museum. We published our first Myths by September 9, Leo Tolstoy‘s birthday.

Collector’s Edition: “Leo Tolstoy’s Caucasian Works“

To commemorate the writer‘s 190th birthday (in 2018), the Yasnaya Polyana Museum and the SNEG publishing company are issuing the collector’s gift edition “Leo Tolstoy’s Caucasian Works.” The book includes famous Caucasian works by Tolstoy: The Raid, The Wood-felling, The Demoted, The Cossacks, The Prisoner in the Caucasus, and Hadji Murad. The book contains 75 coloured illustrations done specially for this edition by the artist Olga Grablevskaya, a member of the Artists’ Union of Russia. Leo Tolstoy‘s Last Journey

On November 7 (20), 1910, at 6:05 am, Leo Tolstoy died at the Astapovo station of the Ryazan-Ural railway.

Specially for the anniversary of the date of the writer‘s death, November 20, we prepared a multimedia project, Leo Tolstoy‘s Last Journey (link to the Russian language web site). It vividly demonstrates the history of Tolstoy’s last railway trip, which brought the great genius’s life to a close.
